Nigel Farage is expected to “take a break” as leader of Reform UK as he faces intense scrutiny over donations made by a convicted criminal.

The Reform UK leader is set to make a statement on his “future in public life” at 2pm today, amid speculation he could resign over a series of donation scandals.

Friends of Nigel Farage have told The Independent that he is considering “taking a break” as Reform UK leader to clear his name of sleaze allegations but “will not run away.”

It follows intense pressure following reports that long-term ally convicted criminal George Cottrell had provided funding for security and staffing in the year before he was elected.

It is the latest financial scandal to engulf Mr Farage, who is already being investigated by the standards commissioner over a £5 million gift the MP received from crypto-billionaire Christopher Harborne.
