A man has been arrested after two people were stabbed in Golders Green, Jewish neighbourhood watch group Shomrim said.
The man was seen running along Golders Green Road in north London armed with a knife and “attempting to stab Jewish members of the public”, Shomrim said on social media.
He was reportedly detained by members of the public before police officers tasered and arrested him. The two people stabbed are said to be receiving treatment by Hatzola, a Jewish volunteer ambulance service.
Sir Keir Starmer said he had been told about the incident before attending Prime Minister’s Questions in the Commons, calling it “deeply concerning to everyone in this House.”
Jewish charity the Community Security Trust (CST) said it was working closely with the police and urged anyone with information to contact the police, Shomrim and CST immediately.
The Board of Deputies of British Jews said: “We are liaising with the CST, government and police to understand what has happened and ensure a forceful response.”
The incident took place not far from where four Hatzola ambulances were set on fire in an antisemitic hate crime on Highfield Road in April. There has been a string of arson attacks targeting Jewish sites in north London.
