Donald Trump has threatened to “take out” Iran’s energy infrastructure, in the latest of several warnings to Tehran after peace talks in Pakistan collapsed on Saturday.
“I could take out Iran in one day,” he told Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo. “I could have their entire energy everything, every one of their plants, their electric generating plants, which is a big deal.”
It comes after he announced that the US will blockade the Strait of Hormuz “immediately” after the US and Iran failed to reach a peace agreement in Pakistan.
Posting on social media, the US president said the US army will block any ships trying to enter or leave the area.
He added the US will seek to “interdict” any vessel that has paid a toll to Iran and accused Tehran of “world extortion”.
“Iran will not be allowed to profit off this Illegal Act of EXTORTION,” he wrote. “Additionally and, at an appropriate moment, we are fully “LOCKED AND LOADED,” and our Military will finish up the little that is left of Iran!”
It comes after negotiators failed to reach an agreement despite 21 hours of negotiations in Pakistan on Saturday.
